My wife, Dee and 1 came to St Ives in 1973.We had every expectation we would stay for the rest of my career and we are proud to have worked in the community all these years. Our family, Matt, Nicky & Emily all grew up here and although living away-in Nicky’s case in Perth, W. Australia -they still very much regard it as home. We’re greatly looking forward to helping our granddaughter Mia and step-grandchildren, Jade and Aaron get to know St Ives too.

The Spinney has changed so much over the years and continues to do so in keeping with the changing nature of Primary Care. It has been an exciting career with never a dull moment, thanks largely to working with such a great Team. We feel we’re pretty good at managing these changes and see most of what’s happening in the new NHS as being of tremendous benefit to patients. Over the years, I have been fortunate to spend time working with the Cambridgeshire Health Authority and the Hunts PCG and this gave me invaluable insights but in spite of doing lots of things away from the Practice over the years, I always come back to being a full time GP with still the same enthusiasm. And we don’t’ mention the “R” word anymore.

We are a busy teaching practice and I have always enjoyed the challenges of changes in not only who were are teaching but also what we are teaching them. I have the main responsibility for the GP training programme and we’ve had some really excellent GPs to train many of whom have gone into Practices locally. For many years Rosemary Lane and I shared the responsibility but Mark Sanderson has recently been approved as a GP Trainer too.

Away from the job, family life is good fun and Dee & I have grown use to travelling often thousands of miles to visit our children and their families. That’s in between pursuing my main outside interests -singing in the New Cambridge Singers (visit our website for details of forthcoming concerts) and following the disasters currently afflicting Cambridge United Football Club of whom I have been a loyal supporter for over 25 years. Oh, and I love skiing.
