Practice Philosophy
The Spinney Team is committed to providing a high standard of medical
care and health promotion in a friendly, caring atmosphere. Working as a
team enables us to offer our patients a wide range of services and
patients are encouraged to see the member of the team they feel might be
most helpful in addressing their needs.
The last six months have seen many changes at the Spinney – Dr.
Smerdon retired after 35 years in general practice, and Dr. Cox moved to
a full time position with the Primary Care Trust. We have been lucky to
attract three great new doctors to join the team. Dr. Andrew Borman who
has spent the last year as our GP Registrar,
Dr. Amit Sethi who spent his registar year at the Acorn Surgery in
Huntingdon and Dr. Deborah Gilbert who trained in Cambridge. They join
Dr. Janie Anderson as associate doctors
at the Surgery. We have allocated patients from Dr. Smerdon and Dr.
Cox’s lists to these new doctors to ensure patients have a named “usual
doctor”. Dr. Anderson has already
attracted patients to her “list” as she has been here for a few years.
We would like to continue to encourage patients to consult their usual
doctor, however it’s absolutely fine for you to consult any doctor as
you wish or as is necessary.
Use of the telephone is encouraged to improve accessibility to your
doctor or the practice nurse (see Access to
Clinicians).
You will see from this website the various Specialised
Services that are provided and there is further information about
the Practice Team members within each section titled Doctors,
Clinical Team, and Non-Clinical
Team. You will also see links to Self
Healthcare and a special section on Healthcare
Links that gives you access to numerous other websites to give
further information on healthcare matters.
Surgery Opening Hours
The Surgery premises are open from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday.
Every week, the surgery closes from 1.00pm to 2.00pm on Tuesday and
Thursday for training, education and computer systems maintenance. There
is always an emergency line available should you require it.
Wherever possible we would ask patients to try and make their routine
enquiries and collections between the hours 9.00am to 1.00pm when we
have most staff available.
Every month, local surgeries are encouraged to close for an afternoon
to undergo staff training events. Details of these dates can be found on
our website news page, or in our newsletter and displays at the Surgery.
Surgery Times
The majority of doctors start their morning surgeries at 8.30am and
offer routine appointments until 11.00am. Afternoon surgeries usually
start at 4.00pm and routine appointments are available until 5.30pm.
Not all doctors are available every day and we set out below a
timetable showing the usual availability of doctors. This is subject to
change and amendment in times of holidays and sickness (Yes even doctors
get sick occasionally!).
On Monday and Tuesday mornings we now offer routine pre booked
appointments from 7.10 am, please make sure you book with your usual
doctor as we have a rota in place. On Thursday evenings we offer routine
pre booked appointments from 6.30 pm to 7.45 pm. Again please make sure
you are happy to see the doctor working that evening.
