Managing Partner
DMS

The task of running the Spinney Surgery has changed significantly
since I joined the practice way back in December 1984. The practice team
has grown considerably over the years, as has the building, and I was
thrilled when the Partners invited me to join the Partnership as
Managing Partner which was a new concept to general practice.
The introduction of computers and associated systems as well as
Department of Health targets, standards and quality initiatives mean
that juggling finance, personnel, premises and other resources is a more
than full time job.
I play and enjoy an active part in the Spinney Patients Association,
which has won the Royal College of GPs Patient Participation Award twice
now!
I enjoy all aspects of my role, particularly those directly involving
patients, and introducing systems which provide improvement to our
patient services. There have been major changes in the last few years
such as the
introduction of a Quality Outcomes Framework. I truly believe it has
been a good thing for Primary Care and I have thoroughly enjoyed
ensuring the practice and the team meet the challenges of the Framework
and that we have improved patient care as a result. I like to think I
have an open door policy for staff and patients so that they can share
with me their thoughts (good or bad!) about our surgery and the services
we provide.
