All Practice Nurses offer nursing care to patients in our
treatment rooms and each have a special area of expertise. We maintain a
constant review of accessibility to specialised services and adjust
nurse and clinic availability to both maintain and improve the services
and standards of patient care.
Nurse Jackie Fryer. Since
joining the Spinney team in 1994 Jackie has completed numerous courses
in Women’s health, chronic disease management, ethics and the law and
research as part of a nursing diploma. After completing the Diploma
course in Diabetes Nursing she has worked closely with
Dr Sean Culloty planning and providing
care for the diabetic patients. More recently she has attended a Minor
illness course and has developed skills in Nurse Triage becoming
involved in the Triage and Minor Illness Service.
Nurse
Gill Avery joined the Spinney in 1998 and is the Surgery's
specialist nurse for patients with respiratory conditions such as asthma
and COPD. She holds the Diploma in Asthma Care and last year underwent
training in minor illness as the nurses role expands in this area. She
also shares responsibility for wound care.
Nurse Ann Hannan
joined the Spinney in 2000. Her knowledge and skills in the treatment
room have been enhanced through the minor illness course. She shares the
lead in chronic wound management. She has a lead nursing role in
coronary heart disease and circulatory problems. She set up and runs the
CHD clinic in April 2003 and works alongside
Dr. Mark Sanderson who is the CHD GP.
Janet Marland
joined the Spinney Surgery nursing team having worked for many
years in Accident and Emergency at Hinchingbrooke. Janet runs the baby
clinic on Thursdays with Halyna Papworth
as well as providing a comprehensive treatment room service
Nurse Rosemary
Duroe-Mayo has joined us having worked as a Practice Nurse locally.
She is very experienced in family planning and women's health. She supports Gill Avery our
specialist asthma nurse.
Healthcare Assistant Helen Mayes started in
this new role in April 2001 having been previously employed as the
practice phlebotomist (blood sample taker). The Practice however decided
that there were a number of other tasks that could be undertaken by a
non-nurse. Helen now also assists with electrocardiograms (ECG's),
urinalysis (the testing of urine), stocking doctor's rooms, chaperoning
(being present at intimate examinations) and has recently passed a
distance-learning course to further develop and support her role.
Healthcare Assistant Halyna Papworth.
Halyna joined the team in February 2003 as the role of Healthcare Assistant
is expanding and increasing. Halyna will work alongside Helen
in the James Arnold Rooms and provide a support service to the
clinicians.
